Holy crap! Since I’ve been gone, WordPress has changed completely! Hopefully I’ll be able to post pictures again … which is why I quit blogging in the first place. It’s no fun when you can only post one pic at a time. Stay tuned. We’ve had lots of adventures.

The Board

So much to keep up with. What’s a girl to do? Make a board. This one has all the scores from JC’s soccer team in Louisville (niece), JC’s soccer team in Lexington (nephew), University of Kentucky football, Chelsea FC and Nottingham Forest FC. England to be added later this evening. Both the JC’s text me their scores after every game, which is a nice consolation since I can’t attend … eight hours is a bit too far to drive for a Saturday afternoon game. I have a sneaky suspicion that Louisville JC doesn’t text me the losing games …...

Lexington Eateries That I Sure Do Miss

Virginia is lovely. I really do mean that. There’s lots to see and do. The people are friendly. The scenery is beautiful. I like it here, I do. But having lived in Lexington, Kentucky for 28 years, there are certain things I miss. One of those things is the culinary selection. Here are some of my faves: Sunrise Bakery – On most Saturday mornings (yes, even the cold ones), Hubbs and I would take a walk in downtown Lexington. Our walk almost always ended with a trip to Sunrise Bakery for some pastries and Illy coffee. Hubbs would...

Run, Forest, Run!

Run, Forest, Run!

About a month ago, I went out to lunch with a friend of mine who had moved from Kentucky to Virginia. She lives about an hour north of Stafford. When she moved to Virginia a few years ago, she got it in her head that she wanted to become a runner. And runner she became. I’m not sure if she’s run a full marathon yet but I’m pretty sure she’s run a half. During the course of our conversation, she mentioned that she’s going to do a 5K in the coming months and told me I should do it...

Workout Playlist

Nuttin’ like thumpin’ to get the endorphins pumpin. It all begins with the girls … J-Lo might be oh so annoying on American Idol but one of my favorite albums by her is On the 6. Before Afleck, before J Lo, she was simply Jennifer Lopez. This song pretty much says it all for me right now. Feelin’ So Good – Jennifer Lopez What is it with Gwen Stefani and Japan? Hell, I don’t know. And I don’t care. Yummy is obnoxiously cool, though. Yummy – Gwen Stefani No excuses. I can just imagine Beyonce up there on stage...

Fredericksburg Battlefield: A Visit to Lee Hill

“From this hill, called Telegraph Hill in 1862, General Robert E. Lee and other members of the Confederate high command watched the Battle of Fredericksburg. The slaughter Lee witnessed stirred him to remark, ’It is well this is so terrible! We would grow too fond of it.’”  Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania Battlefields Memorial As you know, Hubbs and I love to walk on Saturday mornings. Since we moved to Stafford, we’ve most often walked around the town of Fredericksburg, visiting the Farmer’s Market, Eileen’s Bakery and the Olde Towne Butcher. We never took the stinkies because it was just a lot...

A Day Trip to Old Towne Manassas

We moved to Stafford, Virginia in June of this year. Stafford is in a great temporary location for us right now, as it’s smack dab in the center of everything. Just 40 miles north is Washington DC. Ten miles south is Fredericksburg. We’re reasonably close to Manassas, Charlottesville and even Richmond, if we wanted to visit. And visit we have. We’ve been all over this area, in fact, and there’s so much more to see. Every chance we get, we take mini-trips various towns, getting to know the area. Our larger goal is to find a place that we’d like...

Greek-Inspired Chicken Marinade

Mediterranean food is supposed to be oh so good for you. So it’s a bonus that Mediterranean food is actually delicioso! I have a Mediterranean cookbook but haven’t cooked any of the recipes in a while. The other day, I was reading For the Love of Falafel on Biogirl’s blog. Surely she must have been talking about Sahara restaurant, where the chicken shawarma is melt-in-your-mouth delectable, and where you can find falafel as a main course. So I got to thinking … Sahara is about an eight-hour drive away. So how can I create my own version of melt-in-your-mouth...
