Lexington Eateries That I Sure Do Miss

Virginia is lovely. I really do mean that. There’s lots to see and do. The people are friendly. The scenery is beautiful. I like it here, I do. But having lived in Lexington, Kentucky for 28 years, there are certain things I miss. One of those things is the culinary selection. Here are some of my faves: Sunrise Bakery – On most Saturday mornings (yes, even the cold ones), Hubbs and I would take a walk in downtown Lexington. Our walk almost always ended with a trip to Sunrise Bakery for some pastries and Illy coffee. Hubbs would...

Recipe Blogs I Love

Don’t you just love cooking? Me too. Sometimes, after a hard day of work, it’s fun to open the fridge and scour the pantry for ingredients then come up with some new and exciting recipe to try on Hubbs. A new and exciting recipe might even just be a modification of a tried and true recipe that needs refreshing. Greek-Inspired Chicken Marinade

Mediterranean food is supposed to be oh so good for you. So it’s a bonus that Mediterranean food is actually delicioso! I have a Mediterranean cookbook but haven’t cooked any of the recipes in a while. The other day, I was reading For the Love of Falafel on Biogirl’s blog. Surely she must have been talking about Sahara restaurant, where the chicken shawarma is melt-in-your-mouth delectable, and where you can find falafel as a main course. So I got to thinking … Sahara is about an eight-hour drive away. So how can I create my own version of melt-in-your-mouth...

Remember I told you that about once a week I get tired of eating dinner at home? Well maybe I didn’t mention it. And when we lived in Lexington, that was never a problem. Within 15 minutes, we could be sitting at a table at Sav’s, Masala, Harry’s, Hunan, Grey Goose … well, you get the idea. We used to joke that the only thing going on in LexVegas was the dining scene. I guess we should have kept our mouths shut. In Stafford, the choices are minimal unless you want to take a drive North or South on...

Kobe a C+ at Best

June 24, 2011

Last night, Hubbs and I ventured out to Kobe Japanese Steak and Seafood House in Stafford. We weren’t expecting much but I didn’t feel like cooking and Hubbs’d had a long day. Driving to Fredericksburg was not an option. Why not try some local fare, right? My goal is to find a restaurant in Stafford that can be our default for when we don’t feel like cooking. Something just down the street. A nugget. A dive. But someplace that serves exceptional cuisine. Because we’re eating healthy these days, we decided to forego the usual Chinky take-out and eat some...
